Every opal you see here begins with a journey home for me.
I travel from the United States to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where I personally source the opals that become part of our collection. Ethiopia is home to some of the world's most captivating opals, celebrated for their vibrant play of color and one-of-a-kind patterns. There is something unforgettable about holding a rough opal in your hand and watching flashes of color appear as it catches the light.
My days in Ethiopia usually begin with a cup of world-famous Ethiopian coffee before heading out to meet with trusted suppliers. Together, we review newly sourced material—often under the bright Ethiopian sun—and I carefully select stones that stand out for their beauty, color, and overall quality.
Bringing these opals to you is a process that involves many dedicated people. The journey begins with licensed, unionized miners who responsibly extract the stones from the earth. From there, local traders and suppliers help move the opals from remote mining regions into larger markets and export channels.
Before an opal can leave Ethiopia, it goes through the country's official export process. The stones are inspected by the Ethiopian Ministry of Mines and must meet all export requirements, including the payment of applicable taxes and royalties that help support the mining industry and local communities.
For me, these trips are about much more than sourcing gemstones. They are an opportunity to reconnect with my roots, build lasting relationships with the people I work with, and personally hand-select every opal I offer. It means every stone in this collection has been chosen with care, and every purchase helps share a small piece of Ethiopia's remarkable natural beauty with collectors and jewelry makers around the world.
